Join Masterchef Alumna Mai Nguyen for this tasty class on how to make Bao Sandwiches, from scratch. Together with Mai you’ll learn how to make and steam your own Bao Buns and how to prepare two different fillings too. Mai will walk you through making your own Bao dough then how to roll it into buns and steam them too. And you’ll learn how to marinate and roast your own pork shoulder for a Char Siu filling as well as how to fry up a batch of Shrimp for a decadently delicious Peaches & Shrimp filling.
Ingredients for Bao*: active dry yeast, sugar, all-purpose flour.
Ingredients for Char Siu*: 2 lb boneless pork shoulder, soy sauce, shaoxing wine/rice wine (you can also sake, or white wine), hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, honey, garlic, minced ginger, Chinese 5 spice powder, pepper, sesame oil, red food colouring (optional).
Ingredients for Peaches and Shrimp*: shrimp (peeled and deveined), salt, pepper, corn starch, mayonnaise, condensed milk, canned peach halves, frying oil.
Ingredients for Red Onion Quick Pickle*: red onions, beets (optional), white vinegar, sugar salt.
*Please note that we will be discussing potential substitutions for ingredients during your class.
* *Please note for a Vegetarian option, you can use Portobello & Shiitake Mushrooms, or Firm Tofu instead of the Pork we are using in our Char Siu filling.
Class Fee: $27.50 plus GST (pricing is per device and allows multiple participants to attend using a single device). Your Fee Includes: A 120 minute virtual class, including a virtual recipe pack with info on equipment needed. Our recipes are distributed manually. If you sign up within 24 hours of your class time, you may not receive the recipe in advance. We will attach it in Zoom Chat at the start of your class. Please use the ingredient list above to shop for your class.
Software Requirement: We are using Zoom for our virtual classes. If you aren’t already using Zoom you can download their free app for Windows, Mac, Android or Apple iOS here. Upon purchase, your meeting ID and password will be included in your Event Confirmation email – please be sure to save this information as you will need it to join your class.

Once downloaded Zoom will help you set up your free account then you’re ready to join us. Zoom will prompt you and ask for permission to use your devices camera and audio, please accept the requests. Once logged in click “Join” from the home page and enter your Meeting ID, which will be sent to you by email with your recipes.
