Join award-winning Globe & Mail feature writer Jana Pruden together with Chef Cindy Lazarenko for this virtual cooking class on Borsch & Pampushka. During your online cooking class Jana and Cindy will share with you a taste of their Ukrainian traditions as Jana shares her recipe for Ukrainian Borsch. Then Cindy will teach you how to make Pampushka, a deliciously garlicky savoury yeast bread fritter that is traditionally enjoyed with Borsch. And for a uniquely Canadian twist, Cindy will be making a Beet Caesar Cocktail, popularized at Culina Muttart in Edmonton, to sip on while you cook!
Ingredients for Borscht: one or two racks of pork back ribs, onions, beets, garlic, fresh dill, canned tomatoes, carrots, green beans, frozen peas (optional), bay leaves, lemon, toppings: sour cream, fresh dill.
Ingredients for Pampushka: active dry yeast, sugar, all purpose flour, oil for frying (canola or grapeseed), garlic.
Ingredients for Cindy’s Ukrainian Caesar: vodka, beet juice, clamato juice, horseradish, Tabasco, lemon, celery salt, optional garnishes: pickled carrots, pickled beans, pyrohy, crispy bacon strip, pickled beets.

Class Fee: $27.50 plus GST (pricing is per device and allows multiple participants to attend using a single device). Your Fee Includes: A 120 minute virtual cooking class plus a recipe pack including info on equipment needed. Our recipes are distributed manually. If you sign up within 24 hours of your class time, you may not receive the recipe in advance. We will attach it in Zoom Chat at the start of your class. Please use the ingredient list above to shop for your class – if our ingredient list isn’t up yet, then the recipe is in the works and it’s coming very soon!

Upon purchase, your meeting ID and password will be included in your Event Confirmation email – please be sure to save this information as you will need it to join your class.

Once downloaded Zoom will help you set up your free account then you’re ready to join us. Zoom will prompt you and ask for permission to use your devices camera and audio, please accept the requests. Once logged in click “Join” from the home page and enter your Meeting ID, which will be sent to you by email with your recipes.
