Join our Masterchef Back to Win Alumna Mai Nguyen for this virtual cooking class and learn how to make your own Jamaican Beef Patties, together with a Carrot Ginger Vinaigrette and Jamaican Slaw. Your class will begin with making the pastry. Then while your pastry rests you’ll prepare your beef filling. Once your patties are made and in the oven, Mai will teach you how to make a Jamaican Slaw as well as her Carrot Ginger Vinaigrette to add some zing to your Patties.
Ingredients for Jamaican Beef Patties: dough (all purpose flour, ground turmeric, curry powder, salt, shortening, butter), filling (1 lb ground beef – can be lean or regular, onion, garlic, scotch bonnet pepper, ginger, green onions, fresh thyme, paprika, ground allspice, vegetable oil, breadcrumbs, beef stock, soy sauce, sugar
Ingredients for Carrot Ginger Vinaigrette: carrots, onion, ginger, scotch bonnet, garlic, white vinegar, sugar, salt, neutral oil (grapeseed, canola etc.)
Ingredients for Jamaican Slaw: green cabbage, red and green bell pepper, carrot, onion, green onion, scotch bonnet pepper, fresh thyme, garlic
Class Fee: $27.50 plus GST. Your Fee Includes: A 2 hour online cooking class, including a virtual recipe pack with info on equipment needed. Our recipes are distributed manually. If you sign up within 24 hours of your class time, you may not receive the recipe in advance. We will attach it in Zoom Chat at the start of your class on request.
Software Requirement: We are using Zoom for our virtual classes. If you aren’t already using Zoom you can download their free app for Windows, Mac, Android or Apple iOS here. Upon purchase, your meeting ID and password will be included in your Event Confirmation email – please be sure to save this information as you will need it to join your class.
